Engine Oil Change; Why should I change my oil regularly you ask....

Everyone who drives a car needs to know and understand proper car maintenance.  One of the most important things you can do for your car is to get regular oil and filter changes.  Proper maintenance goes a long way, keeping your vehicle on the road longer and getting your family where they need to go safely.

So why should I change my oil regularly you ask....

1. The motor oil is a lubricant to many critical moving engine parts and preserving that lubrication is just the beginning.  Motor oil stays between the piston and piston walls to keep the two from directly rubbing against each other.  Over time the heat causes the motor oil to break down offering less protection against the friction leading to the destruction of the engine.

2. Over time, contaminates such as dust, occasional engine shavings, antifreeze amoung other things are picked up by the car.  These contaminates form a sludge when mixed in the oil, sticking to motor parts and causing engine wear.  Changing the oil regularly can prevent the buildup of these contaminants thus prolonging the life of the engine.

3. Since the oil filter is meant to help reduce the particulate contaminants in the motor oil, changing the oil filter also important to help keep the sludge from developing.  An accumulation of these contaminants will make the filter less effective, so be sure to have your filter changed too even if it costs a few bucks more.

4. Condensation is a signifcant contaminant that needs to be gotten rid of.  Moisture condenses in the water when it sits in a cool state.  Vehicles that stay parked all the time should have their oil changed every 1,000 miles or 12 months.  And vehicles that make short trips also need the oil to be changed more often.

5. Although, you don't have to be obsessive with checking the oil guage and such but, you should develop a routine of checking your fluids, topping off any needed.  This may also alert you to any issues that will need to be addressed before causing serious damage to the engine, becoming very expensive repair bills or having you left on side of the road.
